The announcement is part of the Music Decarbonization Project, which the pop star co-founded alongside the non-profit REVERB.

Billie Eilish recently shared that her headlining Lollapalooza set on Aug 3 will be partially solar-powered with the help of zero-emission battery systems.

The battery systems that will be used are supplied and managed by Overdrive Energy Solutions, a Los Angeles company that focuses on bringing green energy to live events. The batteries will be charged prior to the show on a temporary “solar farm.”

Eilish’s move will serve as a meaningful case study for the music industry on how new energy technologies can significantly reduce the industry’s greenhouse gas pollution.

Billie Eilish is known for her commitment to the environment, previously making efforts on tour to reduce pollution, speaking about her vegan diet, and having co-founded the Music Decarbonization Project, which has a mission to end the music industry’s carbon emissions.

According to the nonprofit’s website, “funding from this project helps develop and promote the necessary shift toward increased efficiency, expanding clean energy options, and reducing greenhouse gas pollution with a focus on the unique climate challenges of music.”

Other supporting partners of the Music Decarbonization Project include Sound Future, the Lumineers, and Odesza.
