Techno maestro Citizen Kain drops an exciting and bouncy EP ‘Stories’ via his label UNSEEN.
Often thought of as “the DJ’s DJ”, Citizen Kain keeps a level of quality that most others only dream of. Kain often performs “very fat, high energy” tracks for the likes of Tale of Us and Maceo Plex among others. After releasing music himself on labels like Afterlife and Ellum, Kain started his own label, UNSEEN, a year ago. Now, Citizen Kain releases his latest EP titled ‘Stories‘ via UNSEEN, as a means of celebrating the label’s one-year anniversary.
‘Stories’, the title track, begins the two-track EP and with an immediate, urgent beat and subtle, but noticeable buzzing synths. Following that, crashing cymbals, atmospheric and spacey synths, and a more pounding beat make themselves present alongside reverb drenched vocals. ‘Lunar‘ then follows, starting with a very boom-bap type of beat, which plays throughout alongside initially twinkling percussion as well. Brooding synths play throughout the track before more Techno synths come in at the 2:30 mark, as well as infectious basslines. A sense of groove and bounce, believe it or not, links the two otherwise vibatiously different tracks together, interestingly enough.
With this latest EP, Citizen Kain shows why he’s still one of Techno music’s hottest DJs around right now. Surely, his listeners will be excited for whatever he decides to churn together come the next anniversary.
