LA-based producer MANTi unleashes her debut EP ‘Call Out’ on Marginalia, the 2nd after Elif in September.

Not long ago, Barcelona-based DJ Elif started a new label, Marginalia, all the way back in September of this year. As an example of her goal to allow complete artistic freedom, Elif released her own EP, Medusa, kicking it off. However, Elif, of course, didn’t want Marginalia to just feature her and began searching for equal-minded artists to sign. Iranian-born, but LA-based producer MANTi caught her attention and, as a result, inked a deal with Marginalia and began working. Soon enough, at the time of this article, MANTi dropped her Marginalia debut, a three-track EP titled ‘Call Out‘, today.

‘Call Out’ comes across as a very dark, brooding EP, one that fits very well as a movie villain theme. Both ‘Call Out’ and ‘Renegade’ contain loud, brassy, and rather abrasive synths, resulting in a very droning texture spread throughout. If I’m correct, MANTi sounds rather inspired by the Industrial movement that emerged throughout both the 80s and 90s. Argentinian producer Ditian also provides us with a remix of ‘Renegade’, choosing to give a more accessible, but villainous version. Overall, MANTi continues the pledge of Marginalia, giving us an artistically uncompromising EP that continues building the label’s budding reputation.
