News We Know About the Nintendo Switch 2 So Far

What's new with the Nintendo Switch 2? Here's what we know so far

Published on

All the news we know about the new Nintendo Switch 2 is relatively unknown. Apart from the latest ‘first look’ trailer released on the 16th of January, much of the information about this latest console has been kept in the dark. This trailer did manage to answer many questions surrounding the new design and appearance of the console, but there was little information about its specifications and graphical capabilities.

So, what will be so different about this latest Switch console? Will it truly improve upon the previous models?

The answer at the moment is uncertain. Although several rumors about this console have given us more information, they have also raised our hopes—hopes for improved performance in this amazing handheld console.

What we know so far:

On the 16th of January, Nintendo unveiled and officially released their first-look trailer. This trailer gave fans a more aesthetic view of what this latest console would entail. However, it only provided an idea of its new appearance and less about its specifications.

The new Nintendo Switch 2 will have a familiar appearance, one that closely resembles the old Nintendo Switch. It is much bigger and more ergonomic than before.

From what the trailer has shown, the new Switch 2 will have a different docking station for the console, an additional USB-C port, a larger and more flexible stand, and different controller docking. Most of these additions raise questions about how the overall feel of the console will change.

Will these new additions improve the console’s performance? And will these additions and changes fix the problems found in the previous console?

Rumors and Their Hopes:

Some of the rumors circulating in the community have given fans a lot to think about with this latest console. Although it is unlikely that players will get their hands on it until much later in the year, it still leaves fans hoping, with expectations placed high in the sky for this console.

Rumors within the community have offered fans a little more insight into this newest console, with more information than Nintendo is willing to reveal. The trailer so far has indicated that the console will be backward compatible with old Switch games, something that was announced by Nintendo at their latest investor briefing.

However, fans may be a little disheartened to hear that news of the Switch 2 launch may not arrive until June or July. They may be even more disappointed to learn that it could have a price tag of more than $500. Although, it is tough to say how much this high price will sway some players.

Interestingly, a more recent leak allowed fans a deeper look at the possibilities of this latest console. This leaked news seems to reveal a look at the motherboard of the Nintendo Switch 2. Unfortunately, it’s less impressive than we’d hoped. Nevertheless, there is a hint of AI about it that could suggest such assistance may be included.

Although we can only hope and theorize about the new console’s capabilities at this current time, much of the rumors circulating can only be taken with a grain of salt. However, fans still have certain hopes and expectations about this newest console.

One such hope is that its battery life will improve upon previous performances of the console. This will mean longer play time and more enjoyable hours. We’ve all been there on a long journey when our Switch suddenly runs out of juice. Hopefully, the Switch 2 will improve upon that…

Why not now?:

Many fans may question why the release and unveiling of such a console would come so early before launch. However, I don’t believe that Nintendo is wholly at fault for that. It is fair to suggest that such a reveal hadn’t been expected, but due to the rising rumors and excitement, Nintendo felt like they had to say something.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that fans will see the release of this console anytime soon. It is more likely that this console will release nearer the summer, perhaps around June or July—definitely after the end of Nintendo’s current financial year.

Perhaps one of the primary reasons that fans won’t see the Switch 2 soon is because Nintendo wants to ensure it can meet the expected demand at launch. It seems as though they have learned from Sony’s mistake and don’t wish to have a major restock panic.

Nevertheless, it seems as though the expectation is for the console to be released this year. The trailer suggests a 2025 release date, although nothing is set in stone or confirmed. If any fans out there, are eager to try out this latest console, Nintendo is hosting an experience for fans to come and try it out. Tickets are on sale, so get them while you can!
