Fauxplay has been quietly honing an exciting new sound, having spent several years building and refining a studio bunker, diving deep into cutting edge sound design with a hybrid analog set up, outboard processing, analog summing gear and hardware synthesis from the likes of Bob Moog, Dave Smith, Korg and Elektron. This rich palette of textures contributes to Fauxplay’s special sound, with tracks oozing sophistication and influences as diverse as Simple Minds, Larry Heard, Ron Trent, Lone, Derrick May & Four Tet.
Fauxplay is now set to skyrocket in popularity and catapult into today’s electronic scene in a big way to claim a position among the new breed of anointed underground electronic producers emerging in 2022. His first official release is an awe-inspiring EP spanning expansive hooky sounds, melancholy moods laid across deep, dreamy soundscapes coupled with uplifting melodies and driving drums, fusing a fine balance between hypnotic bliss and dance floor devastation!
The first gem is a wonderful slab of smile inducing goodness: ‘Rosie Touch The Sky‘. This is a subtly uplifting corker, with hazy vibes, chunky grooves and beautiful chord progressions which could be described as reminiscent of Ben Bohmer and Jon Hopkins making a record for All Day I Dream. Hypnotizing synths interweave with atmospherics and warm, uplifting drums and fizzing percussive layers to make this destined to soundtrack many hazy evenings and DJ sets around the world.
‘Bliss‘ follows on in dramatic fashion offering up deep house at its best with an evocative vocal that really draws you in with its resonating, emotive tones accompanied by a symphony of beautiful violin patterns adding rich depth, before the strings take this to lush orchestral territories.
Getting its swagger on, the deep, driving and infectious ‘Smoke Rings‘ follows. Spacious, trippy and uber cool, this is sure to be a secret DJ weapon in many months to come as it delivers an infectiously killer groove which builds to a backing of hypnotic glitchy vocals and crescendo drums and synths.
Closing this fine EP is ‘Avalon‘, which takes things deeper, dusky and groove-laden with its warm and evocative flavors emitting across the spectrum of sound to deliver a truly spine-tingling effect. A lesson in ‘less is more’ here, while still sounding full and dramatic.
