International Communication is the band’s first single from their highly anticipated debut album Hard Times, Soft Music, which is scheduled to be released on October 14.

Close friends and production partners Julius and Niels use their combined wealth of studio expertise and prodigious creativity to deliver an exquisitely crafted lo-fi electronica cut that is filled with complex analog textures, stripped-down refrains, and a cosmic groove that propels the record across its four-minute duration.

This new single on Laut und Luise represents a change in musical direction for the Berlin-based duo, who combine conventional songwriting structures with more abstract timbres to balance the familiar with the surreal. Their six-part ‘Comeback‘ EP on KELLER back in June featured more dancefloor-oriented tones. The duo’s understated melodies and refined textures are perfectly complemented by warped synthesizers and restrained beats, transporting the listener into their own reflective dimension of tripped-out, sonic exploration; their distorted sound palette forms the foundation of the hazy, sun-drenched narrative.

We took the pandemic as a cue to take a break from dancefloor productions and play around with different genres and production styles. The first single “International Communication” showcases that breadth and introduces an album that pretty much anyone in the post-Shrek cultural landscape could agree on. Basically, if you appreciate a good hug, chances are you’ll enjoy this LP. Also, there’s a pretty cute dog on the cover.
