With the release of the three-track EP A Fistful of Stars, Moullinex makes his Crosstown Rebels debut.
The EP demonstrates the artist’s multi-dynamic style, which combines beautiful electronic melodies with club-focused vibes. The music of Moullinex, who is fascinated by the solar system, exudes cosmic vibes and brilliant energy, making it ideal for a dance floor full of curious people.
Producer, DJ, and co-founder of the Discotexas record label, Moullinex. Along with fellow Portuguese artist Xinobi, he co-runs the imprint. Together, the duo releases international artists including Oma Nata, Diana Oliveira, Anja Schneider, and many more who are known for their nu disco, melodic techno, and organic house. Moullinex developed a love for music, science, and art while pursuing a career in astronomy. He spent his formative years gazing up at the starry sky. Moullinex now mixes all of these disciplines to create electronic music, conjuring vivacious sounds for introspective listening and club-based listeners. With a flexible aesthetic, Moullinex has performed in venues like London’s E1 Warehouse and New York’s Le Bain while maintaining a residency at Lisbon nightclub Lux Frágil. He has also remixed songs by Cut Copy, Sebastien Tellier, Royksopp, and Robyn.
The title track unfolds with a lugging kickdrum and lustrous chords, meandering into a celestial soundscape that tingles the senses—a poignant opener. On the flip, ‘Atacama Skies‘ bristles with shaker-led percussion and tribal drums before a starry synthline winds between the beats. Closing tune ‘JFC‘ switches the vibe with an elastic bassline and choppy rhythm, which Moullinex describes as a “functional club banger.” In typical Moullinex style, he penned it live in one afternoon.
