Egypt’s Vienna-based Darksidevinyl lands on Yoshitoshi with Red Face / Black Shine.
Darksidevinyl is a man who, although having been a producer for more than 20 years, has really found his footing in 2022. He has recently released music at Wired, Connected, MoBlack, Nitegrooves, and Selador; the latter’s release, ‘Plastic Dream,’ was given the coveted Electronic Rising playlist’s “cover.”
As ‘Red Face’, the lead on this AA side, reveals, his sound is distinct and fuses Afro-influences with house, all wrapped in a blanket of deep warmth. But the song’s multicultural inspirations don’t end there; it also incorporates seductive vox and Latin rhythms. “The idea came to me in a cafe,” explains DSV, “I was sat having a coffee when this track came on in the background and the idea flowed from there. It’s funny how inspiration can strike at any given place or moment!”
‘Black Shine’, on the other hand, chooses an instrumental route and relies on a soaring string arrangement that has a style and feel that is almost Bond-like. This dancing track is deserving of a Maurice Binder/007 credit sequence if ever there was one. The emotive, soundtrack feel was entirely deliberate though, as DSV continues to explain, “It really was written and produced for people who love that feeling of pure emotion on the dancefloor; the essence of that moment when the hairs stand-up on your arms, neck or both!”
