DAVI, an artist from Armenia, releases his third EP under Damian Lazarus’ label Crosstown Rebels. DAVI’s most recent EP, which follows Two Suns In the Sky and Gates of Babylon, exhibits a more driving sound than his earlier works, leaning into massive basslines and brisk percussion.

The DJ, the producer, and musician DAVI, who was born in Armenia, has been on the rise for the past ten years, putting out music on renowned labels like All Day I Dream, RADIANT, and many more. Being musically talented since an early age and being influenced by Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, DAVI was accepted into the music program at the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan, Armenia, where he developed his producing abilities. He currently resides in Los Angeles, where he first relocated in 2006. He quickly became absorbed in the city’s electronic culture and soon began to produce his own melodic house, techno, and electronica. DAVI’s work was played by artists like Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, and John Digweed, raising his profile to a new height. Bookings across the USA, Canada, and, of course, Tulum in Mexico, where his sound is at home, show how dynamic and open-minded DAVI’s DJ sets are.

Head-nodding rhythms and irregular, quick-fire claps open the title track as a nasty synth line weaves through the background noise. An intensely low-pitched vocal adds a psychedelic touch and creates tension that’s perfect for a packed dancefloor. On the other hand, Mirage has the warm, rippling, and radiant feel of a dip in the Balearic sea. The mood is shaped by a pounding kickdrum that meanders between a low-key bassline and distorted vocals. Strong contrasts between dark and light textures.

“Over the past 7-10 years, I have accumulated many ideas in my hard drive that I always wanted to make into songs. ‘Nosferatu’ was first made in 2014, but I never finished it. This year I went back to my old projects and brought them back to life with a newer touch. Since I am known for a specific sound and style through my productions, I wanted to get out of my comfort zone for a little and make bigger tracks for bigger dancefloors. I believe this is what I was aiming for in this EP.
