The four-track Opia EP by Hamburg-based producer Magdalena, available now on Warung Recordings, is her first release of 2023 and captures the essence of her deep and funky soundscapes.

One of the scene’s most cherished performers, Magdalena is renowned for her memorable sets and her spotless back catalog. With a strong background in music, Magdalena first encountered electronic music at the age of fifteen when she immersed herself in Hamburg’s vibrant club scene. She launched her famed SHADOWS label, holding successful events across Ibiza, Europe, and North America after establishing herself as an artist, promoter, and DJ.

Magdalena’s in-demand sound has landed her major releases on labels like Diynamic, Kittball, Bedrock Records, Crosstown Rebels, Knee Deep In Sound, Rebellion, Anjunadeep, and Mood. She has also performed at renowned clubs and festivals like Pacha, Amnesia, Watergate, Tomorrowland, Sonus, and Loveland. Magdalena has added her distinctive stamp to a number of well-known remixes, including those of Nicole Moudaber’sThe Sun At Midnight‘, RÜFÜS DU SOL’sSurrender‘, and Moby’s timeless ‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad‘. Magdalena never stops moving to the rhythm of her own drum, bringing fresh ideas to the dance industry.

With the title track, Magdalena sets the mood and demonstrates her great talent for producing, capturing the special feelings that people from all walks of life have when they are dancing together. ‘Opia‘ is a masterfully composed song that masterfully creates a foggy mood with intricate percussion and guiding synths, holding audiences’ attention for the duration of the song. Driving bass, flitting pads, and distorted vocals combine to create ‘Alate‘, another potent tune.

Recycle‘, the EP’s penultimate tune, pushes us into a late-night realm with gloomy bass and powerful synth stabs, delving even deeper into her hypnotic realm. Magdalena explores light and dark themes as she brings the EP to a dramatic conclusion with ‘Back To The Beat‘. She hooks the listener by fusing minimal music with ominous undertones.
