SongBits looks to revolutionize the music industry by offering artists and labels new levels of fan engagement, revenue streams, and data insights.
Developed by artists Russell and Justin Sheffield, with backing from the award-winning singer, songwriter, musician, producer, and Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart, the platform is designed to empower fans and connect them more closely with their favorite artists. Additionally, SongBits recently shared that former Apple Music Artist and Label Liaison Manager, Florian Wilisch will join the team as Head of Artists.
SongBits allows fans to buy fractionalized streaming royalties, which means they can buy a bit of a song for as little as £1/$1 and support artists while also receiving royalty income for life. This innovative approach turns fans into tastemakers while offering them exclusive perks, rewards, and access to their favorite artists in a more direct way. The platform also gives artists new revenue streams and data insights, which is critical in today’s music industry.
The platform has already signed up several new artists, including Mat.Joe, KayOrAlpha, Steve Brian, Andy Moor ft. Sarah de Warren, Nash ft. Christina Novelli, and Dennis Sheperd.
The first SongBits launch with Ashley Wallbridge (Creamfields, Tomorrowland) proved to be a success. The release sold out in just 34 minutes and generated $20,000 in streaming revenue for the artist.
SongBits is also bringing the future of music to this year’s South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, where it will partner with the British Music Embassy and South Asian House to lead discussions with artists and labels on how the platform can transform the way they engage with fans. Florian Wilisch, former Apple Music Artist and Label Liaison Manager, has also recently joined SongBits as Head of Artists, bringing a wealth of industry expertise to scale and grow the business.
According to Stewart, SongBits is a unique way for artists to receive immediate payment and for fans to have a deeper connection to songs they love. He added, “I’m very excited to have been involved with SongBits since its inception and delighted that our first tests have proved fruitful; the artists love it and so do the fans.”
