Bad Bunny sixth solo studio album, DeBÍ TIRAR MÁS FOToS (I Should’ve Taken More Pictures), is deeply personal, culturally significant and rooted in his Puerto Rican heritage. Released at the start of this year, it marks his return after a quiet 2024. The record showcases a reflective side of the global star. The title conveys a universal message: cherish life’s fleeting moments. This theme is echoed in the emotional and nostalgic title track, “DtMF,” which has already sparked a heartwarming TikTok trend.

The album goes beyond introspection, doubling as a celebration and defence of Puerto Rican culture. On YouTube, Bad Bunny paired each song with a slide show exploring Puerto Rico’s history. The slides emphasised the island’s vibrant traditions amidst growing Americanization. This theme culminates in a poignant short film. In it, resilience and pride are summed up in the line, Seguimos aquí (We’re still here).

Musically, DeBÍ TIRAR MÁS FOToS masterfully blends traditional Puerto Rican sounds—like the use of maracas, panderetas, and güiros—with modern Reggaeton and experimental rhythms. Tracks such as “CAFé CON RON” and “BAILE INoLVIDABLE” bring joyous Caribbean energy, while “TuRISTA” and “BOKeTE” use clever metaphors to critique tourism and infrastructure issues in Puerto Rico. Social commentary continues on “LO QUE LE PASÓ A HAWAii,” drawing parallels between Puerto Rico’s struggles and Hawaii’s Americanization.

Though the album includes some classic Reggaeton sounds, its standout moments are where Bad Bunny embraces his roots, showcasing his versatility and pride. Songs like “EL CLúB” and “PIToRRO DE COCO” offer heartfelt reflections, while breezy tracks like “PERFuMITO NUEVO” provide refreshing lightness. The blend of authenticity and experimentation makes this record iconic to Latin culture.

Final Thoughts

Bad Bunny’s commitment to his community shines beyond the music. He announced an unorthodox tour with initial performances exclusively for Puerto Rico residents, emphasising his connection to home. Even as a non-Spanish speaker or Reggaeton fan, this album inspires admiration. DeBÍ TIRAR MÁS FOToS is a must-listen, capturing the essence of Puerto Rican identity and showing Bad Bunny at his most diverse and authentic yet.
