Hello, Cour. T! Thank you for taking the time to chat with us. How are you doing?
Hey guys, thanks for inviting me for this interview. I’m doing very well. I hope you all are good too!
Could you please introduce yourself to those who may not be familiar with your work?
I’m a DJ/Producer from southern Brazil. I basically signed with DIRTYBIRD at the age of 16 in 2019, and since then, my life has changed. Today, I’m 21, and I travelled around Brazil and the world, showing my music and art, which I am really passionate about. I’m releasing my first Album, “Brain Deals”, and that must be the reason why you, the readers, are reading this here.
I have my work supported by renowned names in the scene, such as: The Martinez Brothers, Jamie Jones, Claptone, Mason Collective, Claude Vonstroke, Damian Lazarus, amongst others.
Your debut album with DirtyBird Records is just around the corner, set to release on the 6th of October. How excited are you about this release, and do you have a favourite track from the album?
Without a doubt, “Brain Deals” is my biggest work so far, and I’m extremely excited to share it with the public. It’s been 10 long months of planning and working on it. I’m happy with the completion of this work, and I hope you like what I have prepared.
I love all the tracks, each one represents me in a different way. However, if I had to choose one, it would be “TRiiiBAILE”. It was the first single release from the Album, and it has a special place in my heart.
Tell us about your experience working with DirtyBird Records.
I’ve been working with the label since I was 16-17 years old.
It’s a work of constant ascension. Along the years, I have participated in compilations, I had my own EPS and now my Album.
It’s a maturing relationship, and I can see my entire trajectory. I believe that the label can also see this from me; both musically as a person and as an artist. I am very honored to be part of the family.
Not too long ago, you released a hit track, ‘No No No.’ What was it like when you realized it was becoming such a success? Did you anticipate its popularity during its creation?
When I made “No No No” I had no idea how it would sound to the public. It’s a different track, with lighter vocals but still following my aesthetic. I had to delay the release due to the pandemic. It didn’t make sense to have it released during that time. Today, it is one of the most anticipated tracks during my live set and one of my favorites too.
As of now, “No No No” adds up to almost 2 million plays on YouTube and Spotify.
How did your journey into music begin?
I discovered electronic music when I was 13 to 14 years old, also through my older brother, who was already going to parties and raves at that time. I was fascinated by it. At the same time a friend from high school had also discovered music production and we shared ideas about it.
I took production and DJing courses at a local DJ academy (Yellow DJ Academy) in my city (Curitiba-BR). At the age of 16, I signed my first EP called “Black Magic”. Shortly after turning 17, I got to perform at the Dirtybird Campout 2019. Since then, I’ve been on several international tours, and I got to okay at dream clubs like SOUND LA, AUDIO SF, SURREAL PARK (BR), EL FORTIN (BR), and PARK ART (BR), amongst others.
Are there any exciting projects or tours on the horizon for you?
I’m in the process of taking my work to Europe in the upcoming years, and more releases and tours, which are already in the works.
Today, I take care of my own label called “COLAPSO”, which has been giving me great results as an artistic movement in Brazil.
If you could collaborate with any artist or celebrity, who would it be and why?
Maybe Kendrick Lamar or Kraftwerk
Their work are unique; musically and aesthetically. They are great references and I would love to be able to have something together one day.
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from your journey in the music industry so far?
I think understanding how the mechanism of things work is the main factor. Not everyone is your friend or they are there for a purpose. In fact, money buys a lot of things. The best thing to do is get to know the people you work with, align your purposes, and understand why they are doing what they are doing and where they want to go. Humility first, authenticity, and the main thing is to have good, different, and unique music. It comes with time and patience.
Lastly, What advice would you give to aspiring DJs and Producers who are just starting their journey in the music industry?
Keep in mind that it won’t be easy. You may think about giving up several times but continue. If this is what you love and it makes your heart beat faster, keep going!
Just start, don’t be afraid, live in the moment, and be patient and authentic. Study a lot, listen a lot, and take care of your mind, body and soul.
