Australian DJ and producer HARLEY GIRL, the project of Connor Grant, returns with his new single “Friction,” following last year‘s The Music EP. The track began taking shape in January and came together after Grant discovered a vocal sample from Kenyan group Team Psycho on Tracklib.
The contrast between the vocal’s rhythmic delivery and the fluid movement of the production became the foundation of “Friction,” creating a fast-paced house track that blends grime-influenced vocals with gliding synths and basslines.

“Friction” opens with a high-BPM house groove and gritty vocal phrases before gradually introducing blippy synths and subtle atmospheric details. At just 2:33, the track keeps its arrangement focused and direct, relying on its bass-driven groove, shifting synths, and energetic vocal performance to maintain momentum.
Grant says he was drawn to the Kenyan vocal because of its phrasing and energy, particularly how its tight rhythmic delivery contrasted with the sliding synths he was developing around it.
“Friction” marks the beginning of a new chapter for HARLEY GIRL, setting the tone for a run of club-focused releases. The producer is also set to perform at BIGSOUND in Australia in the coming weeks.
You can stream “Friction” on Spotify.
