Henri Bergmann, a regular at Watergate, returns to her Automatik label with the Higher Dimension EP, a five-track collection.
The title tune is a synth-heavy, futuristic-leaning piece that kicks off the ep. Henri describes it best: “Musically we wanted a hard-hitting deep track, with an infectious melodic lead synth line that would compliment a low and rousing vocal.” Ordinary People follows, with pummeling kicks and a rapid, techno-inspired tempo, giving it a darker air before Mark Höffen’s remix appears. The seven-minute cut maintains the original’s melodic nature while also feeling dreamy and danceable, leading well into 19.26’s ‘Save Us‘ remix’s powerful, peak-time noises. In the background, an acid-like bassine purrs, while shifting piano stabs accentuate Wennink’s vocals. Finally, Jonathan Kaspar gives us an ethereal concluding composition with resonating lyrical samples and glitchy, space-like pads that seems otherworldly and surreal.
Henri Bergmann is quickly establishing herself as one of the UK’s most important electronic music musicians. Her productions have gained the attention of several industry heavyweights, with Nexus and Protection both appearing on the cover of Spotify’s ‘Electronic Rising‘ playlist. Her Automatik imprint is also gaining traction, with Dixon, Tale Of Us, and Nicole Moudaber recently backing the label’s releases.
