With a sound that pays homage to the beginnings of the hard-hitting strain of techno that originated in his native Naples, one of the most renowned characters in electronic music, Luigi Madonna, has entered a new stage in his ongoing artistic development.

Luigi launched his new Contempo label and event initiative last month with the magnificent three-track ‘Contempo Vol. IEP. He is now getting ready to drop ‘Contempo Vol. II‘ the second installment in the imprint’s initial triptych. His most recent three-track album, which is released today, is a momentous example of underground techno that celebrates his blossoming affection for analog and modular synthesizers.

In keeping with his unwavering dedication to originality, Luigi’s new sound palette incorporates the spare melodic sensibilities of his previous works into a quicker techno genre that exceeds the 140 bpm threshold. The ‘Contempo Vol. II EP continues in the footsteps of the imprint’s first release, providing a sound that seems meditative but is strangely equally as assertive in hot, steamy spaces. ‘CNTMP 2.01‘ a gritty peak-time cut that ebbs and flows through a web of sound design elements atop its crystal clear percussion, serves as the extended player’s opening track. Its main motivator is a rave synth top-line that sways dissonantly throughout the song’s duration. As the brilliantly designed break draws near, the kick is removed and acid-laced synth stabs and a heavy riff with a distinctly Madonna-like arrangement are inserted.

The listener is transported into a futuristic world of sound immersion by Luigi’s foundation of vibrating bass scapes and high-pitched digital inflections in ‘CNTMP 2.02‘ which continues this persistent narrative. The recording demonstrates an expanded range of his sound, demonstrating his continuous ability to steer our favorite genre into uncharted waters while yet being current in the scene. Luigi’s third and final track, ‘CNTMP 2.03‘ is another remarkable early-hours production that exudes rapture and plenty of mystery with its collection of cleverly layered synth patterns. It is driven by intrinsic genuineness and technical ability. The EP’s final track, which lures the listener in with his deft manipulation of sound timbres, is another proof that Luigi’s entry into the realm of high-impact techno will undoubtedly be felt throughout the industry.
