When music artists remix a single, the excitement is undeniable. For Los Angeles-based Iranian music producer MANTi, it’s no exception—she has just released a new remix of Nadia Ali‘s “New Energy.” Out now via Smile In Bed, the remix delivers a more energetic and faster take on the original.
Mana Nabati, known as MANTi, studied music production and sound design at Point Blank Music School in LA. Back in 2016, she dropped her first EP, Inception. Years of hard work in the studio paid off, earning her support from melodic techno pioneers Tale Of Us.
She also shared the stage with industry heavyweights like Cirez D, John Digweed, and Adriatique.
Speaking about the remix, MANTi shares that Nadia Ali’s music has been an inspiration to her, especially since the release of Nadia’s “Rapture” in the early 2000s, which immediately captivated the Iranian musician.
“Her voice and the way her music blended electronic elements with emotive, melodic songwriting completely hooked me,” MANTi says.
The remix was produced in December of last year. Nadia sent her new track “New Energy,” along with vocal samples, to some DJ friends, inviting them to experiment with the material.
“I was so excited and inspired that I immediately dove into working on a remix. Within a few days, I had a rough draft ready and sent it to her. To my surprise, she loved it and reached out right away,” she adds.
This remix marks her third release of the year, following Memento on the Mexican imprint Innuendo and her single “Resistance” as part of the V/A Paradiso Inferno compilation on Natura Viva. The remix is undeniably infectious, built on a dark yet captivating groove, with solid drums, a deep house bassline, shuffling percussion, and a hypnotic breakdown.
In addition to the remix, MANTi is launching a record label, MiZi Muzik, with Mira and Mila Stern. She will also be taking her Mira Invites series to London and Lisbon, with upcoming performances at both festivals and club events.
