A 32-year-old Dance Music DJ, Michael Bibi diagnosed with a rare brain and spinal Cancer.
Earlier this week, the British Dance Music DJ Michael Bibi discussed his health concerns on Instagram,
“Last week, I was diagnosed with CNS Lymphoma. A very rare cancer that affects the brain and spine. Unfortunately, it’s moving fast, and l have to stay in the hospital starting treatment immediately.”
The previous month, he was hospitalized due to health issues initially attributed to tinnitus. Later, when he shared the concerns in detail, doctors went on further testing and consultation. Unfortunately, a rare cancer disease of the brain and spine was diagnosed, known as CNS Lymphoma.
CNS Lymphoma, a fast-spreading form of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, specifically targets the central nervous system. According to Cancer Research UK, Lymphomas account for only a small percentage (two out of every 100 cases) of brain or spinal cord tumors. This type of Cancer originates in the lymphatic system, a network of slender tubes and lymph nodes that extend throughout the body. Symptoms of CNS Lymphoma may include headaches, blurred vision, changes in personality, seizures, and difficulties with balance and walking.
Michael Bibi’s management affirmed that he cannot perform any scheduled live shows until he is undergoing treatment. The DJ holds prominent roles as a co-founder and leading figure in Solid Grooves, a renowned dance label. In 2022, he took center stage as a headliner at Coachella, while earlier this year, he graced the lineup of Miami Ultra, a prestigious electronic music festival, alongside esteemed artists such as Swedish House Mafia and Tiësto.
With his musical creations, the DJ hailing from London has significantly impacted the electronic dance music scene. In 2018, Bibi achieved widespread recognition with the viral success of “Hanging Tree,” a track that sampled the popular 2014 Jennifer Lawrence hit “The Hanging Tree” from the soundtrack of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1.
Before receiving his Cancer diagnosis, Bibi addressed his symptoms in a post on Instagram on May 17, responding to fans who had noticed a decrease in his regular posting on the platform.
“I had some tinnitus. Did lots of tests on that, and it turns out I have more of a neurological problem in the brain stem”, he said.
Upon sharing his diagnosis on Instagram, Bibi’s post received overwhelming well-wishes and messages from well-known celebrities and DJs, including Paris Hilton, Steve Aoki, and Martin Garrix.
Solid Grooves, Bibi’s record label, released a statement on their Instagram account, expressing the following:
“The entire Solid Grooves team sends our love and support while he recovers, and we hope to have him back with us as soon as possible to make more memories.”
