ATL055 sees the Atlant return of Raphael Mader, this time as the headline act after his excellent ‘The Other Way’ gave us an exciting preview of his talents on last year’s Voyager II.

Hailing from the Bavarian Capital of Munich, Raphael has steadily enhanced his reputation through recent releases for Øddity, Renaissance and Odd One Out. The ‘Catanya EP’ showcases an electronic and experimental side to Raphael’s sound, something that he has been perfecting through the MODEM project with Julian Wassermann.

Title track ‘Catanya’ is a perfect antidote to the onset of winter through its heart warming melody, sumptuous chords and fragmented beats. Expertly crafted Raphael hits all the right notes, perfectly judging when to extend the breakdown and when to take away the layers one by one, before letting all elements return and sing through to the end.

Within You’ continues the story with chopped up vocal lines and deep stirring synths. Punchy beats and off-kilter keys are added into the mix, injecting an uplifting energy and awaking the senses. A great track for an early morning run in the cold air as you race with freedom, the day full of endless potential.

Inner Noise’ closes the EP with Raphael pulling out all the stops, taking proceedings firmly onto the dance-floor with a rolling groove. Hypnotic layers and tense dynamics add a feeling of inertia, as the listener closes their eyes and lets their mind take them on an exciting journey to a dark smoky club in far off lands.
