Grammy-winning producer Skrillex, known offstage as Sonny Moore, has captivated audiences for over a decade with his genre-defying sound. Recently, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts on the music industry’s complexities. And also, the pressures young artists face, and his plans for the future. In a candid series of posts, Moore provided insight into his creative journey, teased a highly anticipated 2025 release, and paid tribute to one of his musical heroes, Quincy Jones.

Navigating the music industry is no small feat, and Skrillex knows this better than most. “The industry is like politics, it’s designed to be almost impossible to understand”, Moore wrote. His words resonate with the countless artists who enter the field with dreams, only to find themselves caught in its confusing and often unforgiving machinery.

Moore reflected on the mental and emotional toll of these challenges, particularly for young talent. Describing the industry as a “dangerous job” for newcomers, he emphasized the importance of resilience and authenticity. “I’m blessed and lucky to have lived through what I’ve lived through. I’ll continue to do my best as an artist and just make things that provoke beauty and emotion”.

In a revelation that has fans buzzing, Skrillex announced that his next project, scheduled for release in 2025, will be his final work under Atlantic Records. This marks the end of a prolific era that began with his debut EP Weekends!!! in 2010 and includes major albums like Recess, Quest for Fire, and Don’t Get Too Close.

The decision to part ways with Atlantic is part of a broader shift in Moore’s career. Looking ahead, he plans to embrace a new phase of independence. “I’m thrilled to get this out and focus on more releases in 2025 as an ‘independent’ artist”, he shared. However, Moore was quick to acknowledge the nuanced reality of independence in the music world. “I still depend on my team and other creatives. But now, I’m able to rethink how the structures are designed, aiming to simplify how music and art are shared.

In a heartfelt tribute, Skrillex reflected on the recent passing of legendary producer Quincy Jones, a figure who profoundly influenced his own musical philosophy. “He came to one of my shows and spent the time to chat after. I’ll never forget that”, Moore wrote, describing Jones as his “absolute hero”.

Jones’ death has prompted Moore to reevaluate his own artistic path. “His passing has definitely put some things into perspective”, he shared. Jones’ legacy of blending genres, fostering creativity, and mentoring younger artists serves as a guiding light for Skrillex as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.

As always, Skrillex remains deeply connected to his fans. In his closing remarks, he expressed gratitude for their unwavering support. “Knowing how much you care inspires me every day to be a better person and make better music”, he wrote. Encouraging fans to cherish their own creative journeys, he added, “The best things come when they aren’t expected. Make things for smile”.
