«Patron» (literally translated as «Cartridge») is a dog of the Jack Russell breed. He’s called the most famous dog of Ukraine, the mascot of the sappers, the personification of Ukrainian patriotism and resistance to aggression from russia. He is two years old, lives and works in one of the divisions of the State Emergency Service. At the age of 6 months, cynologists began to work with «Patron». He showed the ability of a search dog after the owner once took him to work, and they began to teach him to recognize explosives by smell, but he was not specifically trained as a sapper dog – the owners originally planned that he would be a show dog. The kid has his personal bulletproof vest and his place in the car. A keen sense of smell and excellent training help him detect unexploded mines, shells, bombs, grenades and other explosive items. Since the beginning of the full-scale war that russia unleashed in Ukraine, «Patron» has found and reported more than a hundred explosive objects. Today, he continues to tirelessly explore dangerous areas, motivating pyrotechnicians not to give up and move on. On May 8, 2022, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Patron with the medal “For Devoted Service“, and his owner Mikhail Ilyev with the Order “For Courage“ III degree. The music was written before the start of the war in Ukraine.
