Nothing ever stays the same. As we grow and evolve, so does music. And when it comes to melodic techno, it’s clear that the genre has taken a major turn.

There are two kinds of listeners now: those who just discovered it and the longtime fans who remember when it was still underground back in the early 2010s.

Back then, it felt like artists were creating something truly special—music that was about emotion and storytelling rather than just chasing the next big hit.

If you listen to older sets from Tale Of Us, you can hear the difference. The music used to take you on a journey. Now? Not so much.

What once thrived in the underground music scene has now become a massive festival sound, blasting through Tomorrowland, Ultra Music, and EDC. But with that explosion of popularity, the music itself has started to feel repetitive.

A lot of tracks sound the same, following a predictable formula instead of telling a story. It’s like fast food—tasty, sure, but missing the substance that made it special in the first place.

Take Afterlife, for example. It used to be one of the most forward-thinking labels in the scene, but many fans feel that the deep, emotional tracks that once defined it are disappearing.

The V/A compilations, the rich, layered arrangements, the music that truly made you feel something—they’re harder to find these days.

And then there’s the uncertainty surrounding Tale Of Us. As of now, there are no confirmed shows, and fans are wondering—could this be the end of the duo? Nothing’s official, but the speculation is growing.

So, where does melodic techno go from here? Can it bring back that emotional depth while still thriving in the mainstream? Or is its underground magic lost forever? Only time will tell.
