4X4” marks the first solo release by Travis Scott since his 2023 album, UTOPIA. The track, teased for months through live performances and social media, was finally released after its live debut during the College Football Playoff National Championship halftime show. In tandem with the release, Scott unveiled LA Fire Department-themed merchandise, with all proceeds supporting California wildfire relief efforts.

Produced by Tay Keith, FNZ, and mixed by MIKE DEAN, “4X4” encapsulates the signature Trap sound of Travis Scott. Lyrically, it revolves around themes of wealth, drug use, and the flashy lifestyle embodied by his Lamborghini Urus, from which the track takes its name. While packed with catchy hooks and cinematic production, the track lacks the depth or innovation showcased in UTOPIA, signalling a return to the sound of Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight—a project often viewed as a weaker entry in Scott’s discography.

Despite its appeal to fans of Scott’s earlier work or casual listeners, “4X4” doesn’t break new ground. While references to his Houston roots and nods to past hits like “HIGHEST IN THE ROOM” offer moments of connection, the track ultimately feels like a generic Trap banger designed for younger audiences. For those who appreciated the conceptual artistry of UTOPIA, this track may fall short of expectations. Whether “4X4” is part of a larger project remains unclear, but if it is, it suggests a step back rather than forward in Scott’s evolution.
