Slovenian techno luminary UMEK unveils a new double-single, “Mechanically Intensive / Da Flute,” under his alias Polyvinyl. Released on his newly launched imprint, 1605 GrooveSector, the record dives deep into raw, drum-driven techno grooves.

UMEK needs no introduction—his name is synonymous with the hard groove movement. A true pioneer in the scene, the Slovenian DJ and producer started spinning records at just 17. By 1999, he had already dropped his first releases on his labels, Consumer Recreation and Recycled Loops.

While UMEK’s main productions blend techno with melodies, breakdowns, and synths, Polyvinyl is strictly groove-focused. That distinction is clear in “Mechanically Intensive / Da Flute.”

Mechanically Intensive” delivers an old-school techno punch, fusing looped drums with an uplifting energy. Meanwhile, “Da Flute” takes a darker approach, layering hypnotic melodies, a contagious groove, and crisp hi-hats.

UMEK recently performed at Campus Sava Ptuj in Ptuj, Slovenia, on Saturday (Feb. 22) and at Gravity Copenhagen in Denmark last Friday (Feb. 28).
