The Grammy-nominated producer pairs up with the world-renowned DJ to jazz up a disco classic ‘To Be Real’.

When you’ve achieved a global number one that sets millions of eyes on you, why would you want to stop? Well, Wuki certainly had to have asked himself that question and obviously couldn’t come up with a reasonable answer. The New Jersey based DJ’s whole career revolves around Electronic music, from his old band Innerpartysystem to this very day. His work was even recognized by the prestigious Recording Academy, which nominated his remix of Miley Cyrus‘ ‘Mother’s Daughter‘. A year later, ‘Edge of Seventeen‘ dropped and proceeded to go number one on the UK Shazam Dance Charts.

So, if his most recent hit was any indication, Wuki has been on a retro music streak as of late. Particularly, he’s been sampling a lot of Disco and regards Cheryl Lynn‘s ‘Got To Be Real’ as a favorite of his. Deciding this can’t be a one-man deal, Wuki called up world-renowned DJ Lee Foss and the pair got to remixing. ‘To Be Real’, released through Thrive Music, hooks you in with the iconic horns of the original, confusing at first. Then, frantic beats, rhythmic bass, and synths that vary from droning to steely and guitar-like flood through the listener’s ears. Lynn’s singing of the hook is laced throughout this well-produced track, which blends as naturally as pressing play on videos. Thankfully, the track doesn’t overstay its welcome, clocking in at three-and-a-half minutes and guaranteeing repeated listens.

Wuki and Lee Foss both share such a love for disco, they wanted to breathe new life into it. By modernizing a classic from that era in the best way possible, I feel it’s safe to say they did.
