Berlin-based producer Felix Neumann explores the heights and depths of emotion and electronic music in his debut album as Yulo X, ‘Euphoria Ends

Euphoria Ends‘, the debut album from Felix Neumann‘s alias Yulo X is finally out after the great rollout. This nine-track album was released in October on Vienna’s esteemed Superego Records, weaving together an eclectic array of electronic styles. These range from ambient and house to techno and bass music. Yulo X’s artistry has caught the attention of critics, with DJ Mag Germany praising the album for its masterful blend of wave and dream pop influences. Cutting-edge production techniques underpin these influences, with each track presenting a unique sonic experience. The latest single, ‘Echoes Of Alojera, for instance, pulses with driving house beats. Meanwhile, ‘Apex‘ delves into experimental ambient techno territory.

Conceptually, Euphoria Ends engages, as the name suggests, deeply with euphoria, addiction, and decay themes. It is not just a collection of songs. Instead, it tells a cohesive narrative, where Yulo X’s vocals take center stage on tracks like ‘Amor‘ and ‘Waves‘. His vocals add a personal touch to the album’s moody atmosphere. Additionally, collaborations with talented artists enhance the sound. London producer Tian Karl contributes to a warm, punchy mix. Sam Irl‘s polished mastering elevates the sonic depth of the project. This results in a listening experience that feels both lush and raw.

Yulo X’s Influences

The album also marks a significant stylistic evolution for Neumann. His influences span the vibrant sounds of the 80s new wave. They also include the ethereal qualities of 90s dream pop, clearly drawing inspiration from Cocteau Twins on the outro, ‘Sylvan Veil‘, for instance. Finally, energetic electronica elements also remind the underground scenes of Berlin and London.

With ‘Euphoria Ends’, Yulo X showcases his versatility as a producer, echoing lush melodies reminiscent of Max Cooper. The album also captures the infectious rhythmic energy of Caribou. Moreover, it maintains a minimalist emotional core throughout. The record features orchestral elements and catchy piano lines. These reflect Neumann’s evolving artistry, deeply rooted in his previous projects. These include his dream pop act a hundred times beloved. They also include his house project Fex Fellini, which achieved notable success on international DJ charts.

Bold and boundary-pushing, ‘Euphoria Ends’ cements Yulo X as a fearless force in modern electronic music. He is ready to carve out his own unique path in this evolving genre. This debut is not just an introduction; it is a statement of intent. It signifies that Yulo X is a name to watch, as the artist is making waves in the ever-evolving landscape of electronic music.
