James Hype recently shared an inspiring video where he creates a full track in just 20 minutes!

In a recent video that’s caught the attention of music producers everywhere, James Hype demonstrated how quickly creativity can flow. With only 20 minutes, James Hype created an entire track using the iconic vocals from Modjo’s “Lady (Hear Me Tonight).”

Hype impressively identified a chord progression that perfectly complemented the vocals. This achievement is even more remarkable considering his limited background in music theory. From there, he crafted a catchy hook with a simple, fuzzy lead that blended seamlessly with the piano.

The structuring process was swift. He built the drop using a punchy four-on-the-floor kick, paired with a slightly saturated sine bassline that mirrored the groove of his lead. Instead of the usual sidechain technique, he opted for the Shaperbox plugin, allowing for more precise volume carving. Which can make a significant impact when blasting the track on a big PA system.

For the highs, Hype wisely selected loops from Splice, demonstrating the importance of choosing elements that fit the overall mix rather than just throwing in random sounds. Then, One of the standout moments came when he created an exhilarating build-up. He does this by chopping a single word from the vocal and layering it with reverb. Then, gradually washing it out to enhance the energy. This technique, combined with a low-passed snare roll, set the stage perfectly for the drop.

The final product was a testament to the power of simplicity. Hype’s ability to craft a banger with just a few well-chosen elements reminds us that sometimes, less truly is more. With some “ear candy” sounds and a quick master chain, the track was ready to go.

James Hype’s 20-minute challenge is more than just a showcase of skill; it’s a powerful testament to what can be achieved with focus and creativity. This inspiring demonstration encourages us all to embrace our potential and push the boundaries of our artistic capabilities.
