Over the past few months, Australian producer Arky Waters has kept fans excited with a steady stream of singles, including ‘We Ain’t Like Dem,’ ‘Blessings,’ ‘Roadkilla,’ and ‘Moth.’ These tracks have built anticipation for his latest project, an EP titled ‘Johera,‘ which releases this week. Along with the previously released tracks, the EP features a brand-new song, also called ‘Johera.’
Speaking about the title track, Arky shared that it began as an idea sitting on his hard drive for over a year. “It wasn’t until I found the vocal sample online that the track really came to life,” he explained. He built the beat around the vocal, which became the heart of the song. “Her delivery is so strong and raw,” he added, though he admits he doesn’t know the meaning of the sample’s lyrics. “I guess that’s the beauty of sampling!”
2024 has been a big year for Arky Waters. His singles gained airplay on Triple j, and were featured on popular playlists across Spotify and Apple Music. Just weeks ago, he performed at SXSW Sydney 2024, cementing his place as a rising star in the music scene. With the release of Johera, Arky Waters is set to take his music career to new heights.
Arky shares about the release: “This project will always be about having fun and experimenting, you can literally see it through the tracklist, I’m just trying different genres and making what sounds good to me. This is the way I love djing as well, just switching genres all the time. These songs are just timestamps to my education on electronic music. I started to move towards more natural and tribal sounds – probably as a result of the fatigue of getting into the harder side of techno. My aim for the last two tracks was to make something really earthy and organic that would still work in the clubs.”
