Electronic music serves as a brilliant foundation for many great games. Music often has the power to make a truly great game stand out. Sometimes, it adds a subtle melody that enhances the gameplay. Other times, these musical additions completely blow us away.
When it comes to video games, electronic music is the perfect genre to complement the gameplay. Electronic dance music (EDM) is a popular choice among developers to enhance the player’s experience.
As a result, some truly exceptional pieces of gaming music should not be forgotten. Here’s a list of 7 games with electronic music tracks that are a kick to the soul:
1. Crypt of the NecroDancer
Crypt of the NecroDancer is a roguelike rhythm game, developed by Brace Yourself Games. So, you’d expect the soundtrack to be incredible. And it is! Once you hear the soundtrack for this retro, 8-bit visual game, you can never unhear it.
The game takes the fundamental elements of a roguelike dungeon exploration game and adds the most kick-ass soundtrack. Every track matches the gameplay to a satisfying degree, and each one is composed by Danny Baranowsky.
If you don’t love every track in his soundtrack, the game allows you to add your own MP3 files, customizing the experience to your liking. That said, there’s little need for customization—Baranowsky has already composed the perfect soundtrack for your roguelike adventure.
2. Mortal Kombat 11
The Mortal Kombat series is a legendary franchise that needs no introduction. Its gameplay centers on epic and gory one-on-one battles. While a few characters are given special theme music, one track, in particular, stands out with a truly epic soundtrack.
The track titled Reptile in Mortal Kombat 11 is one of the most incredible electronic music compositions in the series. Although there are other impressive soundtracks in the game, Reptile undoubtedly deserves more recognition and appreciation.
3. Rocket League
The original Rocket League soundtrack doesn’t feature many electronic tracks. However, one of their collaborative updates introduced several tracks composed and assisted by Monstercat. These tracks are incredible to listen to and add intensity and excitement to the gameplay—though not through the mechanics of the game itself.
Instead, they enhance the atmosphere of your epic matches in the arena. When you’re battling for control, feeling like a total boss can significantly improve your gaming experience.
4. Hotline Miami
Not many will have heard of this game, but its soundtrack is worth listening to, even if you don’t play. Hotline Miami is a top-down shooter reminiscent of the 1980s, complete with every retro, 8-bit effect it entails, including a setting in Miami during 1989.
The game features a bumping soundtrack that evokes every element of the 1980s. Most of the soundtrack utilizes retro sound effects that echo throughout its melodies. It creates the perfect and epic vibe to match the game’s unique style.

5. WipEout 2097
A more retro and older title on the list is WipEout 2097. Developed by Psygnosis for the PlayStation, this racing game was released in 1996. Although not a traditional racing game, these racing, hovering spacecrafts needed a more futuristic sound than the popular 90s music. Electronic music was the clear choice.
Somehow, Psygnosis managed to create intense and epic tracks that perfectly accompany the gripping gameplay. These songs excel at raising the tension during the race, as well as slapping insanely hard for tracks from the 90s. It’s impressive that such music could be played on consoles as old as the original PlayStation.
6. Kingdom Hearts 3
Not all of the original soundtracks for Kingdom Hearts 3 include electronic music. However, the main title theme for the game follows the electronic genre and has created an astonishing masterpiece.
This title theme ramps up in intensity as it slowly builds throughout the track, reaching its pinnacle point where things truly kick off. Once it starts, the bass drops and the intensity only increases from there. The track serves as a siren call to all the patient players who had been waiting 13 years for this title to finally arrive, and it certainly did—accompanied by a marching band in the form of this amazing theme.
7. Zone of the Enders
Unfortunately, the soundtrack for Zone of the Enders is not as musically impressive as the others on this list. However, it is still worth mentioning. The electronic tracks in this game are more subtle and less intense than those in the other titles on the list.
These tracks tend to be lighter and mellower, rather than loud and dramatic. They weren’t produced to impress or draw attention away from the gameplay. Instead, they were meant to enhance it. In a game involving space mechs and other such Konami elements, it makes sense that there was no need to make the soundtrack too intense or loud.
These tracks serve only as a sample collection of other truly epic soundtracks made for video games. After all, while a few games have used electronic music to enhance their experience, these songs were chosen rather than created solely for the game. Therefore, they were not added to the list. However, the music mentioned above proves how important and eye-opening some gaming music can be.
