San Diego-based producer and DJ Dianthe has teamed up with Los Angeles techno artist Lila Kova for their new single “Breaking,” released Aug. 7 via Gain Records. The track is featured on the label’s We Are What We Play: A Techno Statement, Vol. 2 compilation and follows Dianthe’s recent single “Fracture.”

Dianthe, a Russian-American artist, draws from her classical piano background to create dark, driving techno shaped by cinematic textures and melodic elements. She has released on labels including Alula Tunes, Subios, and Shadow Wulf, while performing across the West Coast alongside artists such as Fatima Hajji and Marie Vaunt.

Lila Kova brings her background in classical violin to a techno sound that combines cinematic melodies, driving rhythms, and trance influences. Based in Los Angeles, she has released on Modular States, IAMT, and Reload Records, while incorporating live violin into her performances.

“Breaking” opens with a rolling bassline, fast-paced drums, shuffling hats, and vocal effects before introducing sharper synth accents and looped vocal textures. An acid-driven synthline gradually builds tension, leading into a breakdown and a powerful drop marked by heavy synth stabs.

The collaboration grew from a connection the two artists made through an online community roughly two years ago. Their shared background in classical music and mutual interest in darker, deeper techno eventually led them to create the track together.
