Australian-American duo X & Ivy have released their new single “Special Attempt” today via Life and Death, marking a return to the DJ Tennis-led imprint. The track is described as raw and groove-heavy, continuing the duo’s evolving relationship with the label.
Although X & Ivy officially launched in 2023, the project traces back to 2016, when the pair first met at the University of Southern California and bonded over late-night studio sessions and shared musical experiments. Over time, that early collaboration developed into a more defined international project focused on cohesive sound and artistic vision.

Their work has received support from artists and platforms, including Peggy Gou, Bradley Zero, Roza Terenzi, Jennifer Loveless, as well as airplay on BBC Radio 1, Capital Dance, and Kiss FM.
“Special Attempt” opens with classic 90s-inspired house piano chords, layered with vintage-style vocal repetition of “I’m thinking about you,” alongside a rolling, progressive bassline and punchy percussion. As the track develops, additional vocal textures and breakdowns add variation while maintaining a steady club-driven groove.
The duo is set to perform live tomorrow, Saturday, at La Terrrazza in Barcelona, joined by Marcelo Pantani and Downites.
